Basketball Recap: Mitchell Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Evelyn Morales and Morgan Paetow

Mitchell lost against Gordon-Rushville back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mitchell Tigers took a 35-24 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gordon-Rushville Mustangs. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mitchell's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Morgan Paetow, who posted eight points, and Evelyn Morales, who had no points.

Even though they lost, Mitchell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Leading Gordon-Rushville to victory were Rowan Simonson and Emma Martins. Simonson went 6 of 13 en route to 12 points along with six boards and four blocks, while Martins earned seven points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. Martins is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Kylie Goings also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Mitchell suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 5-5. As for Gordon-Rushville, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Mitchell has already played their next game, a 41-26 defeat against Chadron on the 11th. As for Gordon-Rushville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 30-23 loss against Bayard on the 11th.
