Football Game Preview: Plainfield East Bengals vs. East St. Louis Flyers

Two dominant backs in David Croom and Myson Johnson-Cook are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Plainfield East Bengals will head out to face off against the East St. Louis Flyers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Plainfield East will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.

On Friday, Plainfield East humbled Plainfield Central with a 53-7 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bengals, who have now won five matchups by 20 points or more so far this season.

Plainfield East got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brady Cloherty out in front who threw for 147 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. What's more, Cloherty racked up 155.2 passer rating, the most he's had since back in August. Trevor Manuel was Cloherty's top target, picking up 55 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Plainfield East was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 295 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 156 rushing yards in three consecutive contests.

Plainfield East didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Liam Callaghan, Dinari Overton, and Mj Koutsky picked up one apiece. Overton got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, East St. Louis is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of IMG Academy. The Flyers came up short against the Ascenders, falling 38-14. The Flyers have struggled against the Ascenders recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

East St. Louis' loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Plainfield East, their record now sits at 6-3.
