Soccer Game Preview: Firebaugh vs. Avenal

The Firebaugh Eagles will challenge the Avenal Buccaneers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Firebaugh's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for six straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Last Tuesday, Firebaugh didn't have quite enough to beat Tranquillity and fell 2-1.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Avenal, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They beat Coalinga by a goal, winning 3-2.

Avenal pushed their record up to 14-2-4 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 40 goals over those eight matches. As for Firebaugh, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14-1.

Firebaugh beat Avenal by a goal in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Firebaugh since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
