Football Preview: Overton Mustangs vs. Lovelady Lions
Overton is 0-3 against Lovelady since November of 2020 but things could change on Friday. The Overton Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Lovelady Lions at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Overton will bounce into Friday's game after beating Tenaha, who they hadn't topped in eight consecutive meetings. Overton breezed by Tenaha at home to the tune of 65-23 on Thursday. The victory was nothing new for the Mustangs as they're now sitting on five straight.
It was another big night for Bryce Still, who rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also threw for 179 yards and four touchdowns. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in September of 2023.
Overton wouldn't let Tenaha keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Kason Hawkins, Kash Holleman, and Gabriel Miller picked up one apiece.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Overton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 261 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, while Lovelady put up plenty of points last Friday, the same can't be said for Tenaha. Lovelady blew past Tenaha, posting a 41-0 win on the road. Considering the Lions have won three matchups by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Overton's record is now 5-1. As for Lovelady, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
