Softball Game Preview: Southaven Chargers vs. Lafayette Commodores

Southaven is 0-4 against Lafayette since February of 2023 but things could change on Tuesday. The Southaven Chargers will host the Lafayette Commodores at 6:30 p.m.

Southaven is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They came up short against Lafayette, falling 14-3.

For Lafayette's part, Sydney Cregar was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Cregar was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Mary Madison Kelley was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Braleigh Crowe, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Lafayette lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.

The win was the third in a row for Lafayette, bringing their record for this year to 5-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 13.7 runs. As for Southaven, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
