It was a good run, but Waverly unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Gretna East Griffins by a score of 45-43. The match was a 18-18 toss-up at halftime, but the Vikings couldn't quite close it out.

Waverly's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kenna Kottman, who posted 12 points. The dominant performance gave Kottman a new career-high in points. Parker Christiansen was another key player, putting up ten points.

Waverly's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-2. As for Gretna East, they pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Waverly and Gretna East should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings. Waverly will face off against Bishop Neumann at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday up 40 places (6 vs. 46). Similarly, Gretna East (ranked 19th) will meet Standing Bear (ranked 161st) at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
