1. Presque Isle
2013-14: 20-1
Head coach: Jeff Hudson

With all but one player returning from last year's team that was upset in the Eastern Main Class B title game, the Wildcats will be more than a little determined to win another state title. Presque Isle had won 64 straight games and two straight state titles before losing to Mount Desert Island 63-51. Senior 5-foot-10 guard Hannah Graham should lead the way for the Wildcats, along with 5-3 junior guard Taylor Williams, 5-7 sophomore Emily Lagerstrom and 5-11 junior post Regan Nelson.

2. Lake Region (Naples)
2013-14: 21-1
Head coach: Paul True

After falling a game short the two previous seasons, the Lakers won their first state B championship with a 56-47 win over Mount Desert Island at the Cross Insurance Center. Then senior center Tiana-Jo Carter had a game high 21 points, 13 in the second half. Carter was just one of four off a roster of 16 to graduate, so Lake Region should compete again for the state title. Among the returners are junior guard CeCe Hancock (13 points, three steals in state title game), sophomore Kristen Huntress, senior Sarah Hancock, junior Spencer True, and senior Meghan Vanloan.

3. Mount Desert Island
2013-14: 19-3
Head coach: Brent Barker

Mount Desert Island lost in the state finals to Lake Region and return key players Sarah Phelps, a 5-9 senior, 5-4 senior guard Haley Littlefield, 5-7 forward Molly Carroll, 5-9 sophomore guard Sierra Tapley, 5-10 senior Sara Norberg and 5-10 junior Keely McConomy. Coach Barker has won 101 games at Mount Desert Island since 2008-09 and lost but 24.

4. McAuley (Portland)
2013-14: 21-1
Head coach: Bill Goodman

The Lions were hit hard by graduation, including 6-3 post Allie Smith and college player Allie Clement, but the four-time defending Class A state champs have lost just four games in four seasons. Goodman knows how to rebuild quickly.

5. Washburn
2013-14: 21-2
Head coach: Diana Trams

The four-time defending state Class D champion returns senior guard MacKenzie Worcester, a 5-5 guard who had 28 points in last year's state title game, a 78-40 win over Forest Hills. Joan Overman, a 5-8 forward, and a pair of juniors, Natalie Doody (5-7) and Emelia Churchill (5-5) should also be big contributors.
