Baseball Game Preview: Pottsboro Cardinals vs. Mount Vernon Tigers

For the second straight game, Pottsboro will face off against Mount Vernon. The Cardinals will take on the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Pottsboro is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Mount Vernon 4-2. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cardinals as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Matthew McCullough made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Cayden Humphreys was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Landon Goodman was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Mount Vernon and nudges their season record down to 20-8. As for Pottsboro, their victory bumped their record up to 16-7-1.

Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pottsboro has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444.
