League recap: Howe win leads to rise in state rank

Howe moved up to 690 from 815 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A-1 Region II District 6. A 42-27 win over the Bulldogs helped the Bulldogs improve their standing.

Sunnyvale extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Maypearl, 52-7. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.

Pottsboro's dynamic duo of Tanner Frye and Dallas Sewell proved tough for Anna to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Frye threw for 181 yards and four touchdowns and Sewell had 126 yards receiving. Kory Waller helped Pottsboro's passing attack out by catching three balls for 22 yards.

Daxx Hill was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 194 yards on 30 carries as Caddo Mills defeated the Coyotes. Teammate Jacob Tillett added to the ground attack by rushing for 11 yards.

Pottsboro's Frye and Sewell have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 2A-1 Region II District 6 in both passing and receiving yards. Frye has thrown for 861 yards this season, while Sewell, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 18 catches for 502 yards. Howe's Garrette Griffin leads the league in rushing yards with 584.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when John Settle's team takes on Farmersville. At the moment, Sunnyvale is in first, while the Farmers are in fourth.

Sunnyvale took down the Panthers 52-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Ryan Cottingame threw for 198 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 20 yards in the win.
