Softball Recap: Caldwell Cougars vs. Vallivue Falcons
Caldwell had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 8-14 to make it four. They fell 5-2 to the Vallivue Falcons. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Falcons earlier this season, when they won 6-2.
Kloe Fogle was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Payton Jarboe also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
As for Vallivue, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The win was familiar territory for they, who have now won three matches in a row.
On Vallivue's side, Maris Farner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up seven Ks. Farner has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Vallivue got a big performance out of Sophia Kassotis, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Kassotis has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Abbie Egglston, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and one run.
Looking ahead, Caldwell will be playing at home against Columbia at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a 17-game losing streak. Vallivue does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
