San Leandro is a perfect 10-0 against Hayward since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Pirates will face off against the Farmers at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (San Leandro has four straight victories, Hayward has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
If San Leandro beats Hayward with 14 runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over Jefferson on Friday.
Lorenzo Charles made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Charles was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gary Ferguson, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. San Leandro is undefeated when Ferguson posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Fernando Ramos, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
San Leandro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.4.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Hayward's offense. They lost 10-0 to Berkeley on Tuesday.
San Leandro pushed their record up to 10-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hayward, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-14.
Everything went San Leandro's way against Hayward when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as San Leandro made off with an 8-2 win. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Farmers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
