Two dominant backs in Carter Eickmeier and Ben Schmitz are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Shelby-Rising City Huskies will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Boyd County Spartans at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Shelby-Rising City has eight straight wins, Boyd County has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Shelby-Rising City is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing McCool Junction: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Huskies blew the Mustangs out of the water with a 36-0 final score. Considering the Huskies have won seven games by more than 35 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Logan Lindsley produced another solid performance rushing for 39 yards and one touchdown, while also throwing for four yards and one TD. He was even better on defense, making 12 total tackles and defending one pass.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Shelby-Rising City was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 292 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McCool Junction only rushed for 101.
Meanwhile, Boyd County played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Crofton, falling 42-16. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Warriors are ranked 16th).
Shelby-Rising City will have to contain Charlie Adams as he made an impact in Boyd County's last game. He rushed for 82 yards and one score, and also threw for 58 yards and one TD while completing 80% of his passes. Boyd County also got a significant boost from Barrett Koenig, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 94 yards.
Shelby-Rising City's victory bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Boyd County, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Thursday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Shelby-Rising City has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 222 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Boyd County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 288.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
