Basketball Recap: Choctaw Central Comes Up Short

Choctaw Central was the 59-49 winner over Northeast Lauderdale when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Choctaw Central Warriors lost to the Northeast Lauderdale Trojans on the road by a 71-55 margin on Friday. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Northeast Lauderdale was led to victory by Bj Portis and Troy Brown. Portis made all 13 shots he took for 31 points and six rebounds, while Brown dropped a double-double on 20 points and 19 boards. The dominant performance gave Portis a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Steven Lightsey, who posted five points in addition to eight assists and seven boards.

Choctaw Central's loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Northeast Lauderdale, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-9.

Choctaw Central will square off against Pelahatchie at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Pelahatchie will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Choctaw Central surely won't give up without a fight. Northeast Lauderdale has already played their next match (against Leake Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
