Softball Recap: Loogootee Lions vs. White River Valley Wolverines
Loogootee extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-16. They came up short against the White River Valley Wolverines, falling 13-3. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolverines apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.
Ava Jeffers made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
As for White River Valley, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-8. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games.
On White River Valley's side, Kayla Pierce was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Pierce has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, White River Valley got a massive performance out of Lainey Strosnider, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave Strosnider a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Lawrey, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Looking ahead, Loogootee will host Paoli at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for White River Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Dugger Union at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.89 runs per game on average), something the Wolverines will no doubt try to take advantage of.
