Soccer Game Preview: Cornerstone Christian vs. Monticello

The Cornerstone Christian Cyclones will face off against the Monticello Sages at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses apiece.

Cornerstone Christian fell victim to Peoria Christian and their airtight defense on Wednesday. They lost 7-0 to the Chargers. While losing is never fun, Cornerstone Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 389th, while Peoria Christian are ranked 78th).

Monticello had taken Illinois Valley Central down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Saturday. The Sages came up short against the Grey Ghosts, falling 7-2. That's two games in a row now that Monticello have lost by exactly five goals.

Cornerstone Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12-1. As for Monticello, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14-1.

Everything went Cornerstone Christian's way against Monticello in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as Cornerstone Christian made off with a 3-0 victory. Will the Cyclones repeat their success, or do the Sages have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
