Volleyball Recap: Laila Garcia Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Vista Murrieta

There's no place like home for Murrieta Mesa, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They came out on top against the Vista Murrieta Broncos by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. This was a revenge game for the Rams: when they faced off against the Broncos back in September, they had to take a 3-2 defeat.

Murrieta Mesa had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-17.

Murrieta Mesa got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Laila Garcia out in front who had five digs and four aces. Those five digs gave Garcia a new career-high. Analei Bradley was another key player, hitting 71.4% for five kills and seven digs, two aces, and one block.

They weren't the only good servers: Murrieta Mesa was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in 14 consecutive contests.

When it comes to explaining why Vista Murrieta lost, don't look at Kaylin Sun. Despite the final result, she had 18 digs and one assist. Another player making a difference was Chloe Hivand, who had four digs and two aces.

Murrieta Mesa's record now sits at 28-6-2. As for Vista Murrieta, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-16 record this season.
