Recap: Goddard Rockets vs. Artesia Bulldogs
The Goddard Rockets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of Artesia by a score of 38-35. While losing is never fun, Goddard can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Artesia is ranked 19th).
Goddard's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alessandra Porras, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Addycen Luck, who scored nine points.
Goddard dropped their record down to 7-15 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.7 points per game. As for Artesia, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Goddard will square off against Portales at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Goddard focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday. As for Artesia, they will head out on the road to challenge Lovington at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
