Basketball Recap: Overhills Sets Scoring Season-High Against Lumberton

Overhills scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of the Lumberton Pirates by a score of 58-56. If the Jaguars were looking for revenge after losing 64-57 to the Pirates when the teams met back in February of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the defeat, Overhills saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jermane Griffin went 6-for-10 en route to 15 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaiden Ward, who posted six points.

Nate Lawson went supernova For Lumberton., shooting 55% from the field on his way to 21 points. Lawson is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ayvan Redic, who put up six points along with five assists and five steals.

Overhills' loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Lumberton, they pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Overhills will take on Freedom Christian Academy at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Jaguars' defense better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 89.2 points per game this season. As for Lumberton, they will face off against South View at 7:30 p.m. on December 3.
