Baseball Game Preview: Cumby Trojans vs. Hawkins Hawks

For the second straight game, Cumby will face off against Hawkins. Cumby is taking a road trip to square off against Hawkins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cumby has given up an average of 12.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Cumby fell victim to Hawkins and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 16-0 to the Hawks. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Trojans' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

For Hawkins' part, Riggin Smith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Smith has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eli Smith, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Hawkins is undefeated when Smith posts two or more runs, but 5-6-1 otherwise. Trevin Tanner also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Hawkins kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cumby didn't got any hits.

Hawkins is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. Cumby dropped their record down to 1-12 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.
