The Itasca Wampus Cats will take on the Meridian Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Itasca is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.2 runs per game this season.

While Itasca's victory against Rio Vista wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wampus Cats narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Eagles 5-4. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 26, 2024, but that streak is no more.

Brayden Mears made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Itasca let Aydan Villarreal and Caden Littlejohn run wild. Villarreal scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Littlejohn went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits Littlejohn has posted since back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Meridian, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They never let Avalon get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory on Monday.

Itasca's win bumped their record up to 12-3. As for Meridian, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.

Itasca took their win against Meridian when the teams last played back in February of 2020 by a conclusive 21-1 score. Do the Wampus Cats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellowjackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
