Xavier Butler Goes Supernova in South Gwinnett Win

Starting off the list is South Gwinnett's Xavier Butler, who we judged to be the best player in the league this week. Butler rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 115 yards and a touchdown. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run.

South Gwinnett pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Butler and South Gwinnett will square off against Grayson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Sadly, Jordan Do posting his best game of the season wasn't enough to lead Archer over South Gwinnett on Saturday. Do rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 160 yards and three touchdowns.

Archer's loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-6. Do and Archer will square off against Heritage at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Eric Ramey Iii Has Career Rushing Day

South Gwinnett was led to victory by Eric Ramey Iii, who turned in his biggest game of the season on Saturday. Ramey Iii rushed for 148 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process.

This year, Ramey Iii has run in 8 touchdowns while averaging 106.3 rushing yards per game. He is looking even better than he did last year: after six games last season, he was only averaging 18.33 rushing yards per game.

Zion Johnson's rushing tear continued on Saturday as he dropped his eighth-straight game with 105+ rushing yards dating back to last season. He rushed for 194 yards on only five carries. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 70-yard run.

The win got Newton back to even at 3-3. Johnson's next matchup is against Rockdale County on Friday, where he'll look to repeat that solid performance.

Jackson Cook Turns in Season-Best Performance

Jackson Cook produced his most outstanding game to date while leading South Gwinnett to the win on Saturday. Cook rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 50 receiving yards and a touchdown, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process. He showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 65 yards.

This season, Cook has caught 3 touchdowns while averaging 49.3 receiving yards per game. He's made a big improvement compared to last season: at this point last year, he had one receiving touchdown.
