Softball Game Preview: Martinsburg Bulldogs vs. Hancock Panthers

Martinsburg is 0-3 against Hancock since April of 2017 but things could change on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will host the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. Martinsburg has given up an average of 13.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Martinsburg fell victim to Washington and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Patriots, falling 17-0. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Bulldogs' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Hancock beat Forbes Road 10-5 on Tuesday.

Brooklyn McCusker made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Booth, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Keefer, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Hancock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Forbes Road only posted an OBP of .375.

Hancock's victory ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-5. As for Martinsburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-13.
