Softball Recap: Effingham Triumphs

Teutopolis typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Effingham proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Wooden Shoes. The victory continues a trend for the Flaming Hearts in their matchups with the Wooden Shoes: they've now won three in a row.

Layla McBride spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maci Hayes was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Koester, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Effingham was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 12-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Effingham's record is now 17-9. As for Teutopolis, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 19-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Effingham will square off against St. Anthony at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Teutopolis, they will challenge Robinson at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Maroons' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Wooden Shoes' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
