Baseball Game Preview: Marquette Catholic Blazers vs. Delphi Community Oracles

The Marquette Catholic Blazers will venture away from home to face off against the Delphi Community Oracles at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Marquette Catholic has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Marquette Catholic came up short against Hebron on Wednesday, falling 17-4. The loss continues a trend for the Blazers in their meetings with the Hawks: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, Delphi Community had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They blew past the Rebels 16-2. The match marked the Oracles' most dominant victory of the season.

Brett Huffman was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Delphi Community: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Keigan Watts, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Delphi Community pushed their record up to 8-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Marquette Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

Marquette Catholic might still be hurting after the 14-3 loss they got from Delphi Community in their previous matchup back in April of 2019. Can the Blazers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
