Baseball Recap: Spooner Comes Up Short

St. Croix Falls hit Spooner with a six-run sixth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rails fell just short of the Saints by a score of 8-7. The Rails were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Saints earlier this season, when they won 4-3.

Spooner saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Potaczek, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Mason Sobralski was another, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Spooner is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 17-6. As for St. Croix Falls, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-9.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Spooner will challenge Cumberland on Tuesday. The Rails are facing the Beavers at the right time seeing as the Beavers are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for St. Croix Falls, they will take on Rhinelander on Tuesday.
