Softball Game Preview: Clayton Yellowjackets vs. Raton Tigers

Clayton is 0-4 against Raton since March of 2017 but things could change on Saturday. The Yellowjackets will head out to take on the Tigers at 11:00 a.m. Clayton has given up an average of 18.2 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Clayton came up short against Estancia on Thursday, falling 18-3. The Yellowjackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Raton waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 21-3 victory. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by 15 runs or more this season.

Jaylynn Quintana made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Brooklyn Marquez was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Jauzlyn Bone was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Raton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .636. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Raton now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Clayton, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.

Clayton might still be hurting after the 23-8 loss they got from Raton in their previous matchup back in June of 2021. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
