Baseball Recap: Jefferson's Undefeated Season over After Nine Games

Jefferson fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Hedgesville on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 5-4. The game marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Jefferson saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cole Smith, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one double. Another was Serf Guerra, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Having lost for the first time this season, Jefferson fell to 8-1. As for Hedgesville, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Jefferson Cougars face off against Spring Mills Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Spring Mills' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Jefferson's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Hedgesville, they will welcome Washington at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
