Basketball Game Preview: Willow Spring Storm vs. Clayton Comets

Having just played yesterday, the Willow Spring Storm will head out on the road to face off against the Clayton Comets at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Willow Spring knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine matches -- so hopefully Clayton likes a good challenge.

On Friday, Willow Spring earned a 66-56 victory over Corinth Holders. The Storm haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Grant Overman and Brady Williams were among the main playmakers for Willow Spring as the former dropped a triple-double on 14 points, 13 rebounds, and ten blocks and the latter posted 17 points along with five assists and five steals. Overman is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last 41 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Xavion Terrell, who put up six points.

Meanwhile, Clayton took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 90-55 victory over Fuquay - Varina. The Comets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 30 points or more this season.

Willow Spring pushed their record up to 14-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points over those games. As for Clayton, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-8.

Willow Spring came up short against Clayton in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 70-62. Can Willow Spring avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
