Volleyball Recap: Clarkston Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Mercy

Clarkston faced Mercy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Wolves fell just short of the Marlins by a score of 2-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Marlins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 last Saturday.

Clarkston's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Stella Smith, who had nine digs and three assists, and Aydia Bartz, who had four aces. Bartz has been hot recently, having posted two or more aces the last three times she's played.

Mercy was led to victory by Catherine Kuchta and Anna Naida. Kuchta had 12 digs and two assists, while Naida had seven digs and three aces. That's the most assists Kuchta has posted since back in September.

Clarkston's defeat dropped their record down to 26-6-1. As for Mercy, their victory bumped their record up to 35-4-2.

Coming up, Clarkston will square off against South Lyon at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mercy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-0 win against Jenison on the 25th.
