Soccer Game Preview: Grapevine vs. Wakeland

Grapevine is 0-5 against Wakeland since April of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. Grapevine's last three contests have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Grapevine is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. While the 0-0 score might suggest a draw, it was the Mustangs who were credited with the victory. Grapevine got it done in the shootout by posting four goals to Argyle's three.

Wakeland is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Texas' top teams: Lovejoy, who was ranked fifth at the time (Wakeland was ranked second). The Wolverines skirted past the Leopards 2-1. Wakeland haven't had any issues with Lovejoy recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Morgan Landry and Sofia Rodriguez scored both of Wakeland's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 17 goals.

Grapevine's victory bumped their record up to 17-5-6. As for Wakeland, their win bumped their record up to 25-0.

Grapevine suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Wakeland in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
