Baseball Game Preview: Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils vs. Hueytown Golden Gophers

The Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils will head out to square off against the Hueytown Golden Gophers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Mortimer Jordan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.

Mortimer Jordan was handed a nine-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over Elmore County. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Blue Devils as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Jeremiah Tingle looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, John Owen Dean was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Mortimer Jordan's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Braylon Disko, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Mortimer Jordan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Hueytown had just enough and edged out Wesleyan Christian Academy 7-5 on Thursday.

The victory got Mortimer Jordan back to even at 5-5. As for Hueytown, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-4.
