Softball Recap: Natomas Takes a Loss

Natomas extended their losing streak to nine on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-9-1. They came up short against the El Camino Eagles, falling 15-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-1 back in March.

As for El Camino, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-7. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For El Camino's part, Oaklee Schwartz and Emi Kuwabara were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Schwartz tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Kuwabara struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. At the plate, Schwartz went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Kuwabara got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs. That stolen base was Schwartz's first of the season.

In other batting news, Miriam Brabec was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Maleyah Smith was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Natomas will venture away from home to face off against Destiny Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for El Camino, they will face off against Woodland at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.29 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
