Football Game Preview: Wilson Prep Tigers vs. SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars + How To Watch

The Wilson Prep Tigers will square off against the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

As a matter of fact, Wilson Prep put up the most points they have all season on Friday. They strolled past Farmville Central with points to spare, taking the game 38-21.

Travon Usher was his usual excellent self, rushing for 104 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries, while also throwing for 90 yards and one TD. Another player making a difference was Tyquan Whitaker, who picked up 90 receiving yards and one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Wilson Prep was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 296 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 184 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Wilson Prep didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Ethan Nelson and Whitaker. Nelson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, SouthWest Edgecombe got themselves on the board against North Lenoir on Friday, but North Lenoir never followed suit. They claimed a resounding 43-0 victory over the Hawks. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 169th, while the Hawks are ranked 351st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wilson Prep's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
