The South Putnam Eagles will take on the Greencastle Tiger Cubs in a tournament on Saturday. South Putnam is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.

Wyatt Mullin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. Those 15 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eli Owens, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
West Vigo hit Greencastle with a five-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tiger Cubs fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Tiger Cubs have suffered since April 30, 2024.
Greencastle also got a good showing from Griffin Goodpater, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Bryton Gregg and Treyten Clark did some serious damage despite the final result: Gregg went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI, while Clark went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Sam Gooch, who went 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
South Putnam pushed their record up to 3-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Greencastle, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Putnam has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Greencastle struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
South Putnam couldn't quite finish off Greencastle in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 4-2. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
