Softball Recap: Notre Dame Prep Comes Up Short

Notre Dame Prep extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 3-5 in the process. They lost 12-0 to the Masuk Panthers. The Lancers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Masuk, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

For Masuk's part, Julia Bacoulis made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Bacoulis has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grace Ely, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, five runs, and one triple. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Josie Lieto was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Notre Dame Prep will head out to challenge Ridgefield at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Masuk, they will venture away from home to square off against Cheshire at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rams' pitching crew has only allowed 1.7 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
