Softball Recap: Springfield Beats Macarthur for Their Third Straight Win

Springfield put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on the MacArthur Generals with a sharp 19-4 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Senators also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Mia Volpert made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Emma Marcum was a standout: she scored three runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Chloe Scheffler was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Springfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as MacArthur only posted an OBP of .389.

Springfield's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for MacArthur, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Springfield will be playing at home against PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for MacArthur, they will challenge Clinton at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
