Basketball Recap: Paw Paw Takes a Loss

After flying high against Timber Ridge last Monday, Paw Paw came back down to earth. The Paw Paw Pirates were outmatched by the Turkeyfoot Valley Area Rams and fell 104-68. The Pirates were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 51-30.

Turkeyfoot Valley Area was led to victory by Bryce Nicholson and Lance Jones. Nicholson dropped a double-double with 31 points and ten rebounds, while Jones went 11-for-16 en route to 26 points along with seven assists and six boards. Nicholson is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Colt Rugg was another key player, going 7-for-13 to rack up 15 points and seven rebounds.

Paw Paw has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.3 points over those games. As for Turkeyfoot Valley Area, their win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-3.

Paw Paw wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 64-45 loss against Union on the 7th. As for Turkeyfoot Valley Area, they have also already played their next contest, an 82-68 victory against Frankfort on the 10th.
