Baseball Game Preview: Christian Patriots vs. University City Centurions

The Christian Patriots will head out on the road to square off against the University City Centurions at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Christian's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so University City's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Christian's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Thursday's struggle, when Mira Mesa hitters got past them. The Patriots fell 10-7 to the Marauders on Thursday. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Chase Togerson was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Braeden Casey, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, University City fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Clairemont on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chieftains by a score of 7-6. The Centurions have struggled against the Chieftains recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Trevor Lee put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Lee was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, AJ Curry made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Nolan Nunes also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Christian's record now sits at 12-8. As for University City, their record is now 11-8.

Christian was able to grind out a solid win over University City in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
