The St. Johns Country Day Spartans will square off against the Bishop Snyder Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Last Tuesday, St. Johns Country Day came up short against Peniel Baptist Academy and fell 9-6.
Emery Schneider and Gabi Oceguera stepped up to the plate in a big way. Schneider scored three runs and stole a base, while Oceguera went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Bishop Snyder entered their tilt with Bradford on Wednesday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Tornadoes by a score of 6-2.
Caitlyn Boshell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Boshell wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Chloe Gotto, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another was Ava Williamson, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
St. Johns Country Day's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Bishop Snyder, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-1.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Johns Country Day hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Bishop Snyder struggles in that department as they've averaged .386. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Johns Country Day was able to grind out a solid victory over Bishop Snyder in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 11-8. Will St. Johns Country Day repeat their success, or does Bishop Snyder have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
