Baseball Recap: Mathis Takes a Loss

Mathis fell victim to Edna and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They came up short against the Edna Cowboys, falling 9-0. The Pirates were not able to make up for their defeat to the Cowboys from their previous meeting back in March of 2022.

This is the second loss in a row for Mathis and nudges their season record down to 2-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 3-1 Rockport-Fulton (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 73.2% over those games). As for Edna, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2.

Mathis has already played their next contest, a 16-5 loss against Santa Gertrudis Academy on the 3rd. As for Edna, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 1-0 defeat against Rockport-Fulton on the 6th.
