Basketball Recap: Hanalani Sets Scoring Season-High Against University Laboratory School

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hanalani). They simply couldn't be stopped on Monday as they easily beat the University Laboratory School Junior Rainbows 72-11. The Royals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Hanalani's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ellana Klemp led the charge by going 7 for 11 on her way to 16 points in addition to five assists and five steals. Klemp's evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Piha Akiona, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 11 points in addition to six steals and five assists.

Hanalani smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive games.

Hanalani's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for University Laboratory School, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Hanalani will welcome Kamehameha Kapalama at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for University Laboratory School, they will venture away from home to challenge Mid-Pacific Institute at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. University Laboratory School is facing Mid-Pacific Institute at the right time seeing as Mid-Pacific Institute is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
