Basketball Recap: Alameda Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Brian Sanchez and Vinny Arguero

Alameda was the 62-28 winner over Platte Canyon when they last played one another back in November of 2017, but their luck changed this time around. The Alameda Pirates came up short against the Platte Canyon Huskies on Thursday, falling 66-44. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Alameda's loss came despite strong showings from Vinny Arguero and Brian Sanchez. Arguero went 9 for 18 on his way to 22 points, while Sanchez posted 12 points and eight boards. Arguero is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Donavyn Lopez was another key player, putting up four points.

Platte Canyon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trevor Kirklin led the charge by going 11 of 25 en route to 24 points and seven steals. That's the most steals Kirklin has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Max Flores, who had 14 points in addition to six steals and five assists.

Alameda's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Platte Canyon, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-6.

Alameda has already played their next match, a 61-59 defeat against Sheridan on the 27th. As for Platte Canyon, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 77-30 loss against Fort Lupton on the 28th.
