Basketball Recap: Macy Bevan's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Plateau Valley over Meeker

Plateau Valley has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 52-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Meeker on Thursday. If Plateau Valley was looking for revenge after losing 42-36 to them when the teams met back in February of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Several Cowboys players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Macy Bevan, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 17 boards. Bevan is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in each of the last 12 games she's played. Emaline Ealey was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Plateau Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Meeker's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Shailee Rundberg led the charge by going 6-for-14 to rack up 17 points and five steals. Those 17 points gave Rundberg a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Castillo, who posted 12 points along with five boards and four steals.

Plateau Valley's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Meeker, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7.

Plateau Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 58-18 win against Vail Christian on the 7th. As for Meeker, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 49-28 defeat against Gunnison on the 7th.
