Baseball Game Preview: Clay Blue Devils vs. Escambia Gators

Clay is a perfect 3-0 against Escambia since May of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Blue Devils will challenge the Gators at 7:00 p.m. Clay will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Clay is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over Wakulla.

Rylan McMahan made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Clay's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 5-2 (and 10-11 when he doesn't). McMahan was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

McMahan wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was JC Rosette, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one double.

Bishop Kenny typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Escambia proved too difficult a challenge. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Crusaders 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Gators have posted since March 10th.

Clay's record is now 15-13. As for Escambia, their record now sits at 16-12.

Clay was able to grind out a solid win over Escambia in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, winning 6-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
