Softball Recap: Mattanawcook Continues Road Dominance on Monday

Mattanawcook's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They never let the Foxcroft Academy Ponies get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory. Considering the Lynx have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Julianna Cloukey made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Cloukey was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and one double.

Cloukey wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Megan House, who went 1-for-5 with two RBI and one run. Riley Irish also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Mattanawcook pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 12.5 runs this season. As for Foxcroft Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-4.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Mattanawcook is set to square off against their familiar foe Bucksport at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lynx 3.8, the Golden Bucks 0.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Foxcroft Academy will challenge rival Dexter at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
