Basketball Recap: Sahuarita Takes a Loss

Sahuarita played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Cholla Chargers 87-36. The Mustangs have struggled against the Chargers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Sahuarita lost, don't look at Daniel Durazo. Despite the final result, he went 5 for 11 en route to 13 points. Durazo is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last four games he's played. Wyatt Butler was another key player, putting up four points and ten boards.

Cholla's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alexis Saenz, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 16 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Saenz a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Jerry Mendoza, who went 5 of 7 to rack up 15 points.

Sahuarita's defeat dropped their record down to 11-14. As for Cholla, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-3.

Sahuarita wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 58-51 loss against Walden Grove on the 7th. As for Cholla, they are taking a road trip to square off against Douglas at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Douglas knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 games -- so hopefully Cholla likes a good challenge.
