Football Recap: Wakeland's Undefeated Season over After Nine Games

After soaring to 35 points the game before, Wakeland was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They came up short against the Lone Star Rangers, falling 34-13. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Rangers are ranked 19th).

Despite the loss, Wakeland still got an impressive performance from Braxton Cole, who rushed for 121 yards and one touchdown. Grayson Myer also helped out with an impressive 100 receiving yards.

A big part of Lone Star's win came down to the chemistry between Rece Hoyt and his top target Trey Wright. Hoyt gained 160 total yards and two touchdowns while Wright rushed for 120 yards and one score on only ten carries.

Having lost for the first time this season, Wakeland fell to 8-1. As for Lone Star, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Wakeland will face off against rival Sherman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Lone Star is set to challenge their familiar foe Lebanon Trail at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Wright and Jordan Jones.
