Softball Game Preview: Washington Academy Raiders vs. Bucksport Golden Bucks

For the second straight game, Washington Academy will face off against Bucksport. The Raiders will host the Golden Bucks at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Washington Academy's hitters haven't had much luck over their past four matchups, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Washington Academy will bounce into Monday's contest after beating Bucksport, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Raiders won by a run and slipped past the Golden Bucks 2-1. The victory was some much needed relief for the Raiders as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

For Bucksport's part, Natalie Simpson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 17 Ks. Simpson has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Bucksport saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addison Harvey, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Washington Academy's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Bucksport, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 13-1.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Washington Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bucksport struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.2 strikeouts.
