Basketball Recap: AJ Alviso Key Part of Team Effort in Lions Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against MacArthur, Leadership Prep was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Churchill Chargers 81-79.

Leadership Prep's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from AJ Alviso, who went 7-for-10 on his way to 20 points and seven rebounds. That's the most points Alviso has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Justin Matthews, who shot 63% from the field en route to 23 points.

Leadership Prep is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.2 points over those games. As for Churchill, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coincidentally, Leadership Prep and Churchill will both be playing Coppell the next time they take the court. The Chargers will head out to face the Cowboys at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Lions will head out to face them at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
