Softball Recap: Southington Wins Going Away Against Maloney

Southington got themselves on the board against Maloney on Thursday, but Maloney never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over the Spartans. The result was nothing new for the Blue Knights, who have now won nine matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Angie Insogna and Shelby Jordan made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Insogna pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Jordan tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Insogna has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At the plate, Insogna went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double, while Jordan went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that Insogna has hit this season.

In other batting news, Aubrey Perugini was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Reece Archer, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3.

Southington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory made it two in a row for Southington and bumps their season record up to 11-3. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 11-4 Berlin (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63.1% over those games). As for Maloney, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-8.

Coming up, Southington will be playing in front of their home fans against Mercy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Maloney, they will head out on the road to take on Berlin at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Redcoats have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season.
